Lotus Elan Model Cars

Lotus boss Colin Chapman hit the bull's eye in 1962 with the sleek roadster Elan. The elegant lightweight sports car (106 to 126 hp with a weight of almost 700 kg) still feels very agile today. Coupe and convertible versions followed until 1967 as well as the Elan +2 with extended wheelbase. The long runners ran until 1974. 15 years later Lotus, now a GM subsidiary, recycled the name Elan for a new front-wheel drive roadster. It drove as sharp as it looked, but was discontinued in 1992 for lack of success.
